January

  • Jan 13. Family Fun Night; 4-7 p.m.; soup & salad dinner. Bring a white elephant gift & a dessert to share; at the Malo Grange, Malo. Call 509-775-8997.

  • Mar 7. Family Fun Night; 5:30-9 p.m.; spaghetti & salad dinner. Bring white elephant items and a dessert to share; at the Malo Grange, Malo. Call 509-775-8997.
  • Mar 8. Another Bingo night at the Curlew Civic Hall, hosted by the Curlew Civic Club. Doors open at 6:30 PM and games begin at 7:00 PM. Cash prizes. Refreshments available. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent or legal guardian. Curlew, Washington.
  • Mar 15. Marimba Masquerade at The Malo Grange, Malo, WA. Wear a Mask or Costume. Prizes for Best Costume. Dinner By Donation and the dance is free. Doors open at 5:30. Corned Beef Dinner starts at 6:00. Dessert Auction at 6:30. Dance at 7:00. Music by "KUNDA!"

April

  • April 18 - 19. 2008 Annual Conservation Plant Sale and Spring Conservation Fair. Event is part of Ferry County Pride Month, a series of positive community activities in celebration of Ferry County’s natural resources. Attendees can pick up plant orders, purchase conservation plants and trees, and attend natural resource and conservation related workshops. Located at the Ferry County Fairgrounds; admission is free. Plant Sale runs April 18th from 9am – 4pm and April 19th from 9am – 2pm. Conservation Fair runs April 19th from 10am – 1pm.   • April 18. The Unicorn ShipJacques Thiry presents The Adventures of the Unicorn, Friday at 6:30 p.m., at the Curlew School. The Unicorn was rebuilt and skippered by Jacques Thiry (a resident of Ferry County) and was used in the filming of the 1970s movie Roots. Later the ship was used in both Pirates of the Carabean movies and was the Black Pearl in the latter of the two movies. The event is sponsored by the Kettle River History Club.

  • April 28. Annual Stonerose Art, Antique and Collectibles Auction. Annual fundraiser. Stonerose Interpretive Center. Call 509-775-2295 for details.

June

  • June 1. Barrel Derby Days at Curlew, WA.
  • June 1. Ansorge Artists' Affair from 9-4 in Curlew, Washington.

  • June 13, 14, and 15. Prospectors Days in Republic, WA.
  • June 16 - 19. Pioneer Arts Camp for kids ages 8-14. This annual event will take place at Patterson Park in Republic, WA. Children arrive at 9 a.m. and stay until 3 p.m. Mon-Thurs. Please register with Heather at 509-779-4191 or Lynnie at 509- 779-4823. The cost is $10 per day. Your child will have a fun and creative time as local artists teach them to find their inner artist. Please dress your child in layers (we never know what the weather will be) And remember to bring a sack lunch, water bottle, and sunscreen. More detailed schedule to be announced.
  • June 17. Wauconda's Annual Flag Day Celebration - Potluck & BBQ Starts at noon. Wauconda Community Hall. Contact Lori Kocol - 509-779-4081.
  • June 20 - 22. Republic Motorcycle Rally 2008. Sponsored by: Ferry County Fairgrounds, Republic Regional VCB. Event amenities: Live Music - Sat (day & night).   • June 27. The Curlew Civic Club invites you to come and play BINGO on Friday at the Curlew Civic Hall, and win cash prizes!   • July 5. The Saturday Market will be held on WisherWood fencethe lawn at the WisherWood Gallery and Yarn Shop on South Clark Avenue in Republic, WA. Purchase the wares of local artists and craft folk, while enjoying the sounds of talented local musicians. Call 509-775-0441for more information.

  • Aug 4. Writer's Conference 2008 sponsored by the North Country
    Writers. The keynote speaker is Stephen Bly, Western writer, cowboy poet, and author of over 100 books. The conference is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at the Republic High School. Pre-registration is $45, and includes a free continental breakfast and a catered lunch. There is also a free Author Networking and Dessert event, for conference attendees and guests, scheduled for Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Northern Inn.   • Aug 9 & 10.  Washington Open Fiddle Contest, Republic, WA 509-775-3819.
  • Aug 21. Tony and Suzanne Bamonte present Crimes, Criminals and Frontier Justice in the Inland Northwest, Thursday at 6:30 p.m., at the Curlew School. Tony and his wife Suzanne are the authors of several books and are owners of Tornado Creek Publications in Spokane. While sheriff of Pend Oreille County in 1989, Tony solved the nation's oldest active murder case. In 1935 Newport, Washington, marshal, George Conniff, was gunned down by a Spokane police detective. This story is told in Timothy Egan's book, Breaking Blue. Tony and Suzanne Bamonte's coming to Ferry County is the culmination of almost a year of telephone and letter correspondence. This will also be a golden opportunity for our two local writers' groups to meet established authors and publishers. The event is sponsored by the Kettle River History Club. No fee, but donations are welcome.

  • Oct 18. Annual Curlew Duck Derby, Curlew Civic Hall. Sponsor a duck for just a buck! Ducks hit the water at Noon. Prizes for the first Derby duck to cross the finish line. Watch for event posters or call 509-779-4716 for more information.
